About Ranann

Ranann graduated with a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University in 2020. As part of her program she worked as an outpatient mental health therapist intern with TIME Organization in Baltimore, Maryland where she maintained a caseload of clients of all ages and with a range of mental health needs. She has been a Professional Counselor Associate in Oregon since 2021 under the supervision of Julianna Vermeys, MA, LPC, LMHC, NCC.

Ranann holds a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Horticulture from Oregon State University and has been a registered Horticultural Therapist with the American Horticultural Therapy Association since 2013. She interned at the Legacy Health Therapeutic Garden program under the supervision of Teresia Hazen, MEd, HTR, QMHP. As part of this 2,500 hour internship, she had the opportunity to work in a range of settings including the Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon, Oregon Burn Center, Randall Children’s Hospital, EMC Family Birthing Center, Family Relief Nursery, all Legacy hospitals, and multiple senior living facilities in Oregon.

Ranann offers a unique, holistic counseling approach through her knowledge and integration of nature. She knows the impact that nature has on our wellness and holds a deep gratitude for the lessons nature offers. She is passionate about guiding others to reconnect to the idea that they are part of nature, not separate from it. Spending time in nature allows our bodies to activate our parasympathetic nervous system, where we feel safe and relaxed. Offering sessions in nature provides clients with the immense therapeutic benefits of nature in addition to the growth that psychotherapy can facilitate.

In 2023, Ranann became a volunteer mental health provider with the Returning Veterans Project, a nonprofit in Oregon offering free mental and physical health resources to veterans, service members, and their families. Multiple barriers prevent veteran community members from getting the care and support they need. Ranann aligns with the mission of RVP and is grateful to be a part of a community that is dedicated to honoring the humanness of our veterans and providing the support they deserve. Ranann’s nature-focused approach to counseling works well with this population as it is trauma informed and an evidence-based practice shown to reduce symptoms of PTSD including stress, pain, and loneliness, and reduce the risk of suicidal ideation.

Ranann has a passion for nature and can be found hiking, admiring gardens, and tending to her houseplants. She loves to travel and read, both activities that allow her to continue to explore the world. Ranann believes in the importance of body movement on mental health and enjoys lifting, boxing, yoga, and dance. Cooking and baking nourishing food is also a powerful avenue of her self care as nutrition is crucial to our functioning and mental health.
